THE SEVEN-SECOND WINDOW
Everyone knows good impressions are crucial in landing the summer internship of your dreams. However, did you know that it takes less than 7 seconds to form a first impression? This is why when networking it is not only important to have a strong introduction, but it is equally as important to look professional and put-together.
To help our Legacy-Makers, the CSRS Executive Team has put together a few tips to help you DRESS TO IMPRESS and land the job of your dreams at our annual Career Fair!
Tip #1: Less is More
While you do want to seem like you put effort into your outfit, you also do not want to look over-the-top. Remember to construct an outfit out of a few staple pieces first and then add little pieces of flare to the overall look.
Tip #2: Showcase Your Personality!
Add little touches to your outfit that tell people about who you are! Guys can consider a different tie or exceptionally nice socks, and girls can consider simple jewellery or shoes that stand out.
Tip #3: Ensure clothing is clean, pressed and well-fitted
No matter what clothes you wear, if the clothing itself is not well-presented, you could compromise a representative’s first impression of you. The night before CORE, ensure your clothes are washed, do not have creases, and fit properly.
Tip #4: Dress comfortably (especially for Day 2!)
While you may want to sacrifice comfort for style, consider the day ahead. Wear shoes that are comfortable enough for a day full of networking, and dress warmly enough so that you wont be too cold when walking from Omni King Edward to Marche for dinner. There’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable while networking!
Other thing to consider to make a good impression:
1) SMILE and consistently promote a positive attitude
2) Have a firm handshake
3) Maintain eye contact with the representative
4) Maintain a good posture
5) Be engaged and do not appear distracted
We hope these tips help you dress to impress. Remember to use the seven-second window to the best of your ability and when the marketing team takes a picture of you, pose and stay #InFocus!
Love,
